# How to set up attendance certificates

Peewah generates **attendance certificates** automatically. They are published
in the **Event app**, where attendees claim them using the email they
registered with.

Set them up at **Registration → Certificates**, on the **Configuration** tab.

# 1. What goes on the certificate

Define the data that appears on it, add extra fields if you need more
information, and configure the template in the editor.

# 2. The background

Upload the **background image** the certificate is built on. Everything else is
drawn over it, so leave clear space where the name and the text will land.

# 3. Who qualifies

You can require **a minimum number of activities attended** before someone can
claim their certificate.

# 🔴 The setting that causes the most support tickets

**The minimum-activities requirement changes who counts as an attendee.**

- **Minimum greater than zero** → only people who **checked in** to at least
  that many sessions get a certificate.
- **Minimum set to zero** → **everyone who registered** gets one, whether or
  not they showed up.

**If you require activities, check-in has to have worked.** And check-in only
records against sessions that were marked for check-in when you built the
schedule — under **General → Schedule**, in the field that sets where each
activity is used.

So the chain is:

activity marked for check-in
   → attendance can be recorded
      → it counts toward the minimum
         → the person can claim their certificate
```

**If the first link is wrong, the whole chain fails**, and you find out when
people start asking where their certificate is.

> 💡 **The screen shows a live count of how many registrants will receive a
> certificate under your current settings.** Look at it before you publish. If
> it says a number far below your attendance, something in the chain is broken.

# 4. The survey is part of the flow

**Attendees complete the event evaluation survey before they can download their
certificate.** This is not a setting you turn on — with certificates active, it
is a required step.

> 💡 **Write the survey before you publish the certificates.** It is the last
> thing people pass through on their way to something they want, so it is where
> you get your highest response rate of the whole event — and the only moment
> you get it.

# 5. Publish or send

Once configured you can **publish the certificate to the Event app**, where
attendees claim it, or **send certificates to all attendees** at once after the
event.

# How an attendee claims theirs

From the **Event app**, under **Downloads**: they see the available
certificates, complete the survey, and download.

# Why someone cannot download theirs

When an attendee tells you the certificate will not come out, it is one of
four things, and the app tells them which:

| What they see | What it means |
|---|---|
| **Available when the event ends** | Certificates only unlock **after the event is over**. Before that, nobody can download one |
| **Pending survey** | They have not answered the evaluation survey yet |
| **Missing attendance** | They did not check in to enough activities — see the requirement above |
| **Not available** | No certificate has been configured for this event |

> 💡 **The most common one is the first**, and it is not a problem: people go
> looking for their certificate during the event. It appears on its own once
> the event ends.
